END
OF SCHOOL YEAR
My
summer preparations for the end of the school year have always included
letting the kids have a few days off before planned activities come
into effect. A few days to sleep late and maybe to prepare for a trip.
A must for working parents is to know what summer programs are available
in your area--cost and registration info is also important. Sometimes
you can get caught at the last minute with no plan and registration
time long passed for some programs your children may be interested in.
Don't let this happen to you. Start looking around the last six weeks
of school for projects that your children may want to be involved with.

SUMMER
VACATION
My
children, in particular, spend a portion of their summer with my ex,
their Dad. I'm sure there are other children who are products of divorce
that have experienced this dilemma. Time and experience has taught me
that all arrangements are best made between parents and not allowing
the emotional aspects of the "divorced child" rule. My children would
go all summer and stay til school opens again, but remind them that
they should also have some summer "fun" at home in the two parent atmosphere.
Our vacations usually revolve around them and they should be included
on both ends.
Also plan to let
the children have at least three weeks of time at home before schools
begins for the next year. They need to settle in to the familiar routines
and get ready for school again, (You know, the shopping, school supplies,
etc...UGH)
Remember - Mother
knows her children best and knows how much they can tolerate, how much
they will miss their own environment and friends, so my best advise
is to not let THEM decide how long they will stay away. Sybil
